Artist Statement
I embrace abstraction as both language and exploration—an ongoing dialogue between color, form, and history. Rooted in the traditions of Abstract Expressionism, my work draws inspiration from the Dutch Masters, Bram van Velde, the New York School, and the many “isms” that have shaped the evolution of modern art. Each piece is a layered response to my experiences, a visual record of the places I have traveled and the histories that have unfolded around me.
My process is intuitive yet deliberate. As I build layers with mixed media on canvas, paper, and board, the work begins to take on a life of its own. I engage in a dynamic exchange with each piece, turning the surface in all directions to ensure the energy resonates from every angle. For me, a strong abstract painting is one that holds its own in any orientation—where movement, depth, and emotion are felt in equal measure from every perspective. My guiding mantra: the work comes from the work.
I do not title my paintings, choosing instead to leave space for the viewer’s own interpretation. Abstraction is an invitation—an open-ended experience that allows each individual to bring their own history, emotions, and reflections into the conversation. Through my work, I seek to share not just the act of creation but a celebration of life itself.
